In this moment, nothing occurs to me to type. So I am sending you peace and love and wishing you a day full
of magic. Oh, and you may have angels watching over you, that could be really great news.

I try to remember each night before I go to sleep to think of 5 things for which I am grateful. Perhaps,
right now, you would like to take a moment to do that--What are 5 things you are grateful for in this moment?
Practicing gratitude is a form of yoga. When I am feeling light and free and awake, I can almost feel
grace showering upon me in every moment. Sometimes I unconsciously hold an umbrella over my head to block the grace.
Eventually my arms get tired, I feel dry and then I remember to let go, drop the umbrella, and a open myself up to the grace
again.

Is it possible to put forth effort and relax at that same time? Yoga gives us the opportunity to experience
this possibility. As you watch the NBA playoffs this weekend, notice if any players seem to be relaxed as they exert
themselves physically. Who looks like they are in flow? What activity might you do this weekend that could put
you in a state of flow?

"I think I can, I think I can, I think I can." My two-year-old daughter has been really enjoying the
Little Engine that Could lately. I think that book is very powerful. if I had said this key
phrase to myself when shooting free throws during my high school basketball career, I believe I would have made a higher percentage.
We can influence the performance of the body by focusing on positive thoughts.
Do you have a mountain to climb today? Be it large or small, if you repeat to yourself as you climb
"I think I can, I think I can, I think I can" I bet you will have a easier ascension.

Right now you have the opportunity to let go of all the details of your life. Come
into this moment by tuning into the sensations in your body. What do you notice in the pit of your belly? Without
trying to change or fix any feeling or emotion, what are you experiencing right now? Complete this sentence "I am ......"
Again, "I am ....."
I believe that who you are is beyond your thoughts and your body. What does your true Self
wish to express to the universe in this moment? If you like, share it with others on the bulletin board.

Why ever do what you don't want to do? There many be several reasons.
A wise friend once told me "You often are not aware of many of the benefits of what you are doing
until much later." People often don't feel like going to yoga class or practicing yoga on their own. There may
be benefits to willfully starting to practice. The art of gentle will power can be nurtured in yoga. You may not feel
like doing a particular posture. Surrender, let go, willfully enter the posture, and see what happens. It won't kill
you, it may make you stronger.
Perhaps today you will play with this principle "off the yoga mat." Do something you don't
want to do, letting go the best you can of any possible negativity, and see what happens. It may be magic.

The first yoga I experienced was Kripalu Yoga in 1992. Since then, I have taken classes in or been exposed to
various other forms of hatha yoga including Bikram, Sivananda, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Flow, Anusara, etc. My favorite type of
hatha yoga remains Kripalu. I don't know if it is because that is the yoga I experienced first or it is because that is the
yoga that best fits me or both. From my first kripalu class, I have felt comfortable, present, and at home.
I notice in the most recent catalogue for the Kripalu Center in Lenox that the daily yoga classes are no longer
called "Kripalu Yoga." When I visited there last August, several of the yoga classes I took were not taught in what I would
consider a Kripalu style. Overall, the percentage of courses offered at Kripalu that are in the Kripalu tradition has been
decreasing over the last several years.
I think the world would be a better place if there were a Yoga retreat that offered only Kripalu yoga classes
and programs. I am putting this out into the universe. Perhaps in a warm, beautiful place like Sarasota, Florida which does
not have a Destination spa facility of any kind.

When I worked in the reservations office at the Kripalu Center in Lenox, MA, Kripalu was an ashram
as well as a guest program center. We were trained not to encourage guests to take advantage of other activities in
the Berkshires while they were guests at Kripalu. The thinking was that their visit to Kripalu was about doing inner
work and that this would be hindered by their involvement with outside activities.
I received my Summer Kripalu program guide today and noticed that on page 6 are descriptions
of the major cultural activities in the Berkshires like Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow, and Shakespeare and Company. So
now guests are encouraged to sample the many activities in the area while they are at Kripalu.
I can see the potential for yoga and growth in both approaches.

Today see if you can go more slowly. Read this more slowly. Slow... .....down. Even...........................slower.
Take a breath. Are you in a rush? Why?
Sometimes, when I am feeling good and creative and productive, I tend to go faster then I need to in everything.
Yoga has taught me to pay attention and ask myself, "Do I need to go this fast?" Slowing down can be challenging.
It is a discipline. And usually after a few seconds, when I adjust to a new speed, it feels empowering and good to go
slow.

Welcome back to Yoga in the News...Take 5 deep breaths allowing your belly to expand on
the inhalations. Extend your arms straight over head with the palms facing forward. See if you can brings some
relaxation to your shoulders. Now, slowly lower your arms down extending them to the sides.
I just flew back from Maui, boy are my arms tired...and legs...and eyes. It is a great

If you were told right now that you had 20 minutes to live, what would you
do? Maybe you should do it anyway.
I am off with my wife and daughter to Maui, Hawaii. Wherever I go, there I will be.
Who I am is not affected by where I am. Yet, I have found that travelling, with its new sights, sounds, smells, etc.,
can help remind me of who I am. In the midst of change, in the waves of new experiences, I might remember
that I am the eternal witness, the seer, of my human life.

April 1, 2005--April Fool's Day
What are you celebrating today? Our shared foolishness as human beings? The art of fooling?
I suggest celebrating the art of being fooled. Allowing yourself if you are fooled today to laugh at yourself, laugh at your
gullibility--to appreciate that someone in the world trusts you enough to feel safe enough to play with you.
