This series is for brand new beginners and will teach standard yoga
postures, emphasize body awareness and safety, and is designed to prepare someone new to yoga to join any ongoing yoga class.

Hi. My name is Gary Halperin, and I am a professional level certified yoga instructor offering
one on one personal yoga sessions in the Sarasota area.
In a personal session, you will learn yoga at your own pace and for your own body. You will experience
the benefits of individual instruction and feedback as you practice breathing, stretching, strengthening, and relaxing.
Yoga - It's Not What You Think
Yoga is not a religion or any form of worship. It's about getting in tune with your body and working
with your body to give it what it needs.
If you think you need to be an Indian holy man who can twist his body into a pretzel to do yoga,
you're missing the message here. Yoga is for everyone. It doesn't matter if you can't remember the last time you exercised
or even if you believe you can't get back into good shape, lose weight or increase your flexibility. Personal yoga sessions
can work for you.
My clients typically report to me an amazing list of physical benefits including their blood pressure
decreasing, balance and flexibility increasing, posture improving, ability to sleep improving, strength and energy levels
increasing, their immune system getting stronger, and their weight normalizing.
Even more amazing, if you have suffered an injury and are in pain, yoga may rapidly aid your body
in naturally healing itself. Many physical therapists are aware of the healing power of yoga and suggest their clients take
private yoga lessons.
My Yoga Story—Weight Loss and New Perspective
I discovered yoga 16 years ago after graduating from college. I was overweight, tired, and trying
to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. Without knowing at all what I was getting into, I went for a 2 week retreat
to the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Lenox, Massachusetts. I had never done yoga before. In fact, I did not even know
what yoga was or what a yoga class looked like. Yet somehow I had a felt sense that I had come to the right place to experience
and learn something new and valuable.
At Kripalu I was exposed for the first time to "Eastern thought." I began a journey inward. I questioned
if the purpose of my life was to be outwardly successful. I learned that there was another way to approach and think about
life that was not based on worldly success but on cultivating compassion, balance, peace, acceptance, presence, and non-judgmental
awareness within myself.
After 3 months of practicing yoga, I had more energy, felt great, and had lost 20 pounds!!!!!

Feel Better Now
You might just be surprised at how quickly and easily your body begins to recover and respond.
I've worked with clients of all ages - from young children to senior citizens. I never fail to be amazed by the ability of
the human body to adjust and recover from injuries and limitations.
I never push clients beyond their abilities and most importantly - I encourage you to listen to
your body. In many cases as people age, their bodies became stiff and less flexible over time. It may take some time
to recover. Pushing you or forcing you beyond your abilities could aggravate problems. This is one of the most important reasons
why someone with physical challenges should only work with a private instructor.
What Your Yoga Sessions Are Like
When I come to your home or office for a private yoga lesson, all you need is some comfortable
clothing to wear and an exercise or yoga mat or large towel.
YES - You will gently begin working muscles according to your ability.
YES - I will explain and demonstrate all of the moves and positions for you.
YES - I will guide and assist you as you begin to move your body into the proper
positions.
YES - I will be patient and encouraging.
YES - I will motivate you to make positive changes in your life.
YES - Your mood may improve and your overall well-being may increase.
YES - Anxiety and depression may decrease.
YES - Your concentration and memory may improve.
YES - Your sense of self-esteem and concentration may improve.
NO - You will never be pushed beyond your abilities.
NO - I don't believe yoga is one size fits all. We start very slowly and you will
be able to get into the poses.
